The day is widely known with ancient festivities across the country. The day starts with a vibrant procession from “Ramna Botomul”mainly in bangladesh. The rural individuals prepare Baishakhi Mela on this day. Shopkeepers open halkhata, ( a replacement ledger) and provide sweets to their customers and shoppers. The day encompasses a special attraction for the peoples. They rise early within the morning and rumble themselves in their best dresses. It is celebrated mostly on 14th april or 15th april in indian states mostly in west bengal, tripura, assam, etc. Mainly Pohela Baisakh 1426 is celebrated by bengalies. Pohela Baishakh represents our old tradition & culture. it's the manifestation of our cultural heritage.

History Behind Pohela Boisakh 2019 or Poila Boisakh 1426 :

According to many archeologists in Mughal era land taxes were collected from the people of bengal according to the islamic calender. So mughal king AKBAR decided to create a new calender for the people of bengal to remind themselves about the date. He gave this responsibility to Fatelluah Shiraji to create a bengali calender and na,mamed the calender as BANGABDA.
But according to many scholars KING SHASHANKA was the creator of BANGABDA or bengali new year.
However bengali era is started in the year 594 according to Greogorian Calender. Hence it is 593years less than english calender.
This way pohela baisakh became one of the most important day of bengalies life.

Aspects and Activities of Pohela Boishakh:

Mongol Sobha Jatra: Boishakhi Mongol Shobha Jatra is ther greatest attraction of the day. In the very early morning of pohela boisakh the rally or sobha jatra starts from the Charu Kala Institute of Dhaka University. People from all over bangladesh gather in the premises of the Dhaka University and with great enthusiasm the rally starts in morning 6.00am of the day.

Boishakhi Fair Mela: It is arranged all over the country of Bangladesh and some places in India like West bengal, Tripura, Manipur, Assam. There is a wide selection of product associated activities that create the fair an attraction to all people. one in all the fun aspects of the Boishakhi Mela is the joyride like the Merry-Go-Round and Ferris wheel.

Aalpona: In the front yard and staircases, miniature Aalponas or Rangolies, traditional designs, are drawn using bright colours like red, green, blue and yellow as well as powdered rice. Drawing gigantic Aalponas in the main streets and walls all night long is one fun activity where both male and female participate.

Haalkhata: It is the ritual of closing the old Ledger and opening a new one with new entries on Pohela Boishakh. Traders involved in gold, clothing or food business send out invitations to old customers and entertain them with sweets.

Sports: Many Rural sports are arranged in this special day of Pohela Boisakh 2019 such as Nouka Baich (boat race), Kite flying, Bull Racing, and flying pigeons, football tournaments etc are among the more popular ones.
